ROTARY MEETING: Dr. Dan Heimermann, USC Aiken Update

Dr. Daniel Heimmermann became the University of South Carolina Aiken’s fifth chancellor on July 1, 2021, after serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at The University of Texas Permian Basin. As chancellor, Dr. Heimmermann is the chief executive officer for the university and oversees all aspects of university operations.
He is a recognized leader in higher education. In addition to his experience at The University of Texas Permian Basin, where he ranked as the senior-most chief academic officer in The University of Texas System, he has also served in administrative roles at Mississippi University for Women, The University of Texas at Brownsville, and University of North Alabama.
Dr. Heimmermann holds two bachelor’s degrees, in history and Spanish, from University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in early-modern French history from Marquette University. Before his career in administration, he was recognized for excellence in teaching and was the recipient of several research fellowships. A historian of early-modern France, he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and reviews and has presented his work at both national and international conferences. In 2014, he published the book Work, Regulation, and Identity in Provincial France.
Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Heimmermann and his wife Claudia have one daughter, fourteen-year-old Lucie.
