ROTARY MEETING: Dr. Kenneth Rogers, History of the Department of Mental Health

State Director Kenneth M. Rogers, MD, MSPH, MMM
Kenneth M. Rogers, MD, began his tenure as state director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health on April 2, 2020.
Born and raised in Dillon, South Carolina, Dr. Rogers is a graduate of the University of the South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed both his General Psychiatry Residency and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute/University of South Carolina. Dr. Rogers is Board certified in both General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He also holds a Master of Science in Public Health from UCLA and a Masters in Medical Management from the University of Southern California.
Prior to returning to South Carolina, Dr. Rogers served as Chief of Psychiatry at Parkland Health and Hospital Corporation and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Rogers has a long history of working to expand mental health services to underserved populations by partnering with both traditional and non-traditional locations of services, including faith-based communities, schools, and correctional facilities. Dr. Rogers has presented and published wide in the areas of child psychiatry, juvenile justice issues, spirituality, cultural issues, and health care system reform.
